Junior entry, two year starter. First-team All-Pac 12 the past two years and consensus All-America in 2023. Big thick frame with length and size. Played mostly in a wide nine from a two point stance but also had reps from a three point in a five alignment. Plays with power and ability to consistently hold the point of attack. Shows strong hands to lock out blockers and set the edge versus outside runs. He’s a force against the run with ability to stack and shed a block and locate the ball. Plays with a hot motor and is relentless chasing in the backfield. He can flatten and chase down backs on the perimeter and inside across the field. Makes plays with second effort. As a pass rusher he can convert speed to power and has a strong bull rush into a move. Can knock a blocker off balance to set up a move. Has a variety of moves along with the ability to collapse the pocket with his power. He’s quick to shoot his hands and has shown ability to counter to get off a block with a quick push pull. Has solid functional speed and agility and has been used successfully as a flat defender in coverage. Lacks ideal flexibility and will play upright at times. This limits his ability to escape a block against powerful athletic tight ends and tackles. Occasionally leaves a play on the field by over pursuing and missing a tackle in the backfield. Not the most athletic and shows average snap quickness. He’s not elite bending around the corner and can get locked up and ridden out. Relies on outstanding technique, power and second effort to make plays. Has the tools of a solid starter in the right scheme.
