Two year starter. Second-team All-SEC in 2023. Transferred from Florida in 2022 where he played special teams for three years. Has decent length and excellent functional playing speed. Quick and aggressive getting downhill once he sees the read. When he gets ball side leverage he shows a dip and rip move to defeat a block working to the ball. Excellent chase linebacker with perimeter to perimeter range. Tackles well in chase mode with drive and finish. Shows lateral agility in traffic to avoid blocks and make plays on shifty backs. Reacts well to cutbacks. Has been used effectively to blitz with first step quickness and ability to rip through backs in pass protection. Can chase down quarterbacks moving in the pocket. Flashes cover skill with speed to match tight ends in the seam and cover backs on short routes out of the backfield. As a zone defender gets depth in his drops and has a feel for route combinations. Can keep his focus on the quarterback too long and not see pattern pressure. Can get caught in no man’s land with no receiver nearby. Has trouble squaring up ball carriers straight at him. Has a tendency to lose leverage playing tall and give up yards after contact or miss by going late and low. He’s athletic and was an excellent special team player at Florida and that could be his ticket in the NFL. Has tools to develop but needs work in key areas. Projects as a backup Will and special team ace.
