Four-year starter. First three-year team captain in school history. Three-time All-ACC selection including first-team honors in 2023, and third-team All-America in 2022. Typically aligned as the three-technique in Duke’s four-down fronts with extensive reps on the edge. Possesses solid height and weight with a well-built upper body and a massive lower half. His nonstop, tenacious motor is not something you can teach; he shows the desire to dominate every rep. Plays with an out-of-control style that makes him a pain for offensive linemen to block. Throws all of his weight into linemen on engagement to create immediate knockback. A powerful run defender who will hold his own against solo blocks with a strong anchor and violence on contact. Able to handle double teams with his anchor as he drops his weight and controls the line-of-scrimmage. Slants into gaps with notable lateral agility and a violent rip move to squeeze into the backfield. Shows a violent bull rush move to apply pressure in pass rush from the interior and on the edge. Gets his hands up when he stalls out to knock balls out of the air. Closes on the quarterback in a hurry. Excellent effort in pursuit and will make plays from behind. Slow reaction time to get off the ball. Fringe upfield burst off the line-of-scrimmage making limited ground in his initial steps. Inconsistent pad level and plays high regularly. Lands his hands outside and rarely works them back inside. Leaves his feet on engagement which causes him to lose momentum. His aggressive playstyle makes him prone to losing his balance and falling on the ground. Outside of his bull rush, he supplies little value in pass rush and stalls out regularly; must develop a counter move.
