Five-year starter. Transfer from Mississippi State after his freshman year. All-ACC honorable mention last season. Aligned as the slot cornerback, but has the size to play outside as well. Possesses a solid height/weight ratio with a muscular build but short arms. A quick processor to recognize route concepts instantaneously and put himself in excellent positioning. His physical nature helps him jam receivers in both zone and man coverage to disrupt timing. Passes off targets in his zone while recognizing incoming threats. Sticky in man coverage with solid technique and the speed to stick with fast receivers. Disciplined eyes when reading hips in man coverage and rarely guesses. In press coverage, he’s aggressive while maintaining proper technique and balance. Displays the speed to carry fast receivers downfield and across the formation. Possesses great ball skills and will extend his whole body out to break up passes at the catch point. Can play the hands with his back turned to the quarterback. When he identifies screen plays, accelerates downhill with a purpose to blow up the play in the backfield. Shows effort and desire to make plays in run support when his name is called. Physical when engaging with blockers to get good pop on collision. Substantial acceleration and a high motor in pursuit to catch ball carriers from behind. His overall skill set and athleticism will allow him to align on the perimeter and not exclusively in the slot. Shows some tightness in his hips that will make it difficult to cover sudden slots at the next level. Sloppy footwork in transition and shows some difficulty dropping his weight. Lack of length will make it difficult to break up passes against longer receivers. Misses tackles with fringe strength, and needs to work on his technique.
