Five-year starter. Transfer from Fresno State prior to the 2023 season. Three-time All-Mountain West Conference including first-team honors in 2021. Typically aligned as the boundary safety in one-high and split-safety coverages. Possesses ordinary height and solid weight with notably short arms and a muscular frame. Quality processing speed to react accordingly with the quarterback’s eyes while weaving. A fluid mover with phenomenal agility, loose hips, and burst to leverage his area in underneath zone coverage. Great physicality in zone coverage to jam receivers and shove them off their path. Technical in man coverage with patience and eye discipline to cover receivers in space. Good in transition with a quick foot in the ground. A hard-nosed thumper in run support that makes the running back feel his presence. Uses proper tackling form matched with strength and aggressiveness to take running backs to the ground. Lacks the range to be a true one-high defender, and will benefit greatly from playing in two-high schemes if asked to play deep. Marginal foot speed causes him to fall out-of-phase quickly in man coverage. His lack of length limits his ability to break passes up in the air and make a play on the ball. Must take better angles to the ball carrier outside of the box as he has a tendency to over-pursue. Needs to improve his ability to shed blocks to get to the ball carrier. Plays his best football closer to the line-of-scrimmage, and would benefit from moving to nickel where he can utilize more of his strengths.
2023 Stats: 82 T, 5 TFL, 4.5 sacks, 2 PBU, 2 QBH, 1 FF. OSR:14/20. Draft projection: 5th-7th round
