Two year starter. First-team Mountain West, Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year and second-team FWAA All-America in 2023. Kamara has a thick muscular build but lacks ideal length for the edge. Has been extremely productive the last two seasons in the Mountain West with an aggressive style of play. Played in a wide nine from a two and three point stance. Shows quickness at the snap and a relentless motor engaging blockers and pursuing. Shows violent hands striking and can separate from a block on the move. Plays with knee bend and solid pad level to get leverage on blocks. Generally holds the point and flashes ability to stack and shed on the edge. Has decent lateral movement and can make plays on the perimeter. Has excellent range to chase and can get across the field in pursuit. Makes a lot of plays with second effort redirecting and chasing. He just keeps coming. As a pass rusher he shows a bull rush as a primary move and can drive a blocker back to collapse the pocket. Works into a move from there showing an arm under, quick swipe and chop, and an occasional spin move back inside. Often used on inside gap charges after starting outside. Has some bend around the corner and can chase down a scrambling quarterback. Lack of length shows at times setting the edge as he can get reached and sealed. Sometimes gets a little out of control and too far upfield and misses some tackles. Can be so focused on driving the blocker back he’s late getting into a move and can get stalled or ridden out. Needs better timing in working a move. Lacks ideal traits but has qualities teams look for.
