Four-year starter. Three-time All-Pac 12 selection including second-team honors in 2023. Aligns at both safety positions and at nickel in Oregon State’s heavy quarters defense with some cover one mixed in. Possesses elite height and weight with great length and a long, slim frame. Shows a fluid, natural backpedal when gaining depth. Sufficient burst out of his break to close on receivers. Displays the foot speed to carry tight ends vertically. When coming down in run support, breaks down efficiently and uses good tackling form to bring ball carriers to the ground with minimal yards-after-contact. Plays with an aggressive demeanor in the box and will shed blocks with strong hands to leverage his run responsibility. Takes good angles to the ball carrier. A reliable tackler in the open field using impressive functional strength to finish while attempting to punch the ball out. He will pressure the quarterback as a blitzer using quality bend off the edge and notable closing speed. Slow to react to the quarterback when he takes his hand off the ball which significantly limits his range. Opens up prematurely when receivers attack his leverage. Despite his strength, need to see more physicality to knock receivers off their route and disrupt timing. Slow in transition due to stiffness in his hips and only adequate change-of-direction skills. He will have difficulty carrying receivers with good speed vertically due to average foot speed and stiff hips to flip smoothly. His skillset projects for high upside on special teams.
