2024 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about MALIK WASHINGTON:
Virginia | HT: 5084 | WT: 191 | 40 time: 4.47 | Arm: 3038 | Hand: 0914 | Wing: 7278
Two-year starter. Transferred to Virginia in 2023 after four seasons at Northwestern. Earned first-team All-ACC and second-team All-America in 2023 after re-writing the program’s single season record book in receiving yards and catches. Led the nation in receptions, finished second in yards while hauling in 80+% of his targets. Washington is an explosive and shifty slot receiver who is short, but thick. His play strength and body control play bigger than that listed size. What stands out the most, and arguably more important than his physical profile, are his competitive genes and intelligence. He knows the game, understands leverage, and forces the defense to react to him. If he struggles to get open, he has proven the ability to win in contested situations routinely. This is an NFL-ready inside threat who can quickly turn into a quarterback’s best friend underneath. Twitchy, energetic route runner who gets in and out of his breaks with sudden burst. Can win at all three levels of the route. Reliable hands, left college with a miniscule 2.5% drop rate. Unusual success in traffic despite size shortcoming. Concentration and competitiveness raise his skill set even further. Can create something out of nothing. Slippery and tough to tackle. Creates yards after catch in every way possible. Contact balance and vision are running back-caliber. Plays with a sixth sense. Just one season of plus-production in five years. Ran a lot of easy, uncovered routes in that one season. Needs to get more sudden on deep comeback routes. Needs the extra step to gear down and change direction. May not be able to stretch the defense as a vertical route runner, limiting his route tree.
