Four-year starter. Former walk-on who earned a scholarship during the 2020 season. All-Pac 12 honorable mention this past season. His measurables don’t stand out with height, weight, and length deficiencies. Loose hips and torque to turn out linebackers at the first level. Best at blocking on angles to knock second-level defenders off-balance, and cuts off pursuing defenders from the backside. Maintains a balanced base when climbing levels as a blocker. Forces speed rushers to run the hoop in pass protection. As a pass catcher, uses quick chopping feet when breaking down to change direction fluidly as a route-runner. Solid snap at the top of his route to separate and accelerate quickly. Attacks the seam with decent speed. Impressive athleticism and dexterity to catch jump balls at their highest point and at awkward angles. Not afraid to take a hit when securing catches. Turns away from defenders during the catch process to force missed tackles. Long strider in space with the ball in his hands, and finds open running lanes to maximize yardage. During scramble drill he finds open throwing lanes to help his quarterback. Rose to the occasion in the national championship where his high effort and heart was put on display. Fringe functional strength to hold up and sustain blocks against first and second-level defenders. Needs to be more assertive as the lead blocker. His strength issues appear in pass protection when holding up against power from targets of all sizes. Not an overly explosive athlete. Limited yards-after-contact with small frame and lack of strength.
