Three-year starter. All-Big 10 in 2023 and 2022. Arrived at Michigan as a tackle and saw starter snaps in 2020. He lost grip of that starting job in 2021 but still rotated in at multiple positions. Won the team’s most improved player award in 2022, a year in which he won the starting right tackle job on the Joe Moore Award winning offensive line. He started at three positions for the 2023 national champion squad and therein lies his value at the next level. Physically, Barnhart has a few holes that do not project to the starter level in the NFL. However, he does meet the minimum for a backup grade and his ability to play multiple spots will be attractive to front offices. Shows enough athletic ability to pass protect against speed. Can bend his knees with ease with a strong, flat back. Shows advanced recovery tactics. Comfortable with combo blocks and can peel off the second level with balance. Tight hips show up when he needs to react to sudden change of direction. Lack of power shows up when he tries to get push inside as a run blocker. Hands do not always play independent of each other. Will get himself caught on his heels.
