Three-year starter. Team captain who earned playing time right when he stepped on campus in 2019. Three-time All-Big 10 selection with third-team honors in 2023. Typically aligned on the edge with some time at three-tech in even fronts, and as a 4i in odd looks. Possesses good height and fringe weight with a sizable frame and short arm length. Gets off the ball with low pad level, and wins leverage on engagement. Good use-of-hands when engaged to maintain extension and hold an edge. Shows a decent snatch-and-rip move with quick hands to shed blocks. Skinnys up to fit into gaps with low pads and physicality. Decent lateral agility when sliding down the line as action flows away from him. An agile defensive lineman with quick feet and twitch to efficiently stunt. Uses short-area burst when closing on the quarterback to finish. An efficient tackler who rarely misses. High motor player who wins in pass rush with his second effort. Lacks explosiveness off the line-of-scrimmage and makes minimal ground early. A marginal athlete who shows stiffness in his extremities and struggles to turn the corner efficiently.
