Ourlads' Profile:

2021 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about DAVIYON NIXON: Iowa, 6031 305 4.90. Junior entry, one-year starter, Kenosha, WI. Spent one season at Iowa Western JC. Redshirted at Iowa in 2018 before playing a rotational role in 2019 and starting last fall. Earned first-team All  Big 10 and All America honors in 2020 while also finishing as a finalist for the Outland Trophy and Nagurski Award. The Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year broke out this past season with 13.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. His athleticism and instincts jump off the screen. Has a body that needs to develop more, specifically below the waist. In the meantime he will offer pass rush potential and should be a solid option to play a gap specific role where he can win the initial movement battle and use that hunger and natural strength to finish plays. Athletic frame with a lot of meat above the waist. Barrel-chested with thin, flexible ankles. Shows outstanding quickness and acceleration to factor in the tackle box. Rangy defensive lineman who will make plays away from his starting point. Adjusts his weight on the move with ease. Minimal wasted time or steps when turning toward the action. Powerful farmer’s hands that get a solid grip on blockers and ball carriers alike. Can swipe, grab, and hold onto whatever he wants. Shows a good anchor and will plant his roots into the ground. Adjusts well post-contact. Instinctive approach that will diagnose in a hurry combined with a constant try-hard mentality. Pad level could use some work. Won’t engage his lower half enough post-snap. Needs to strengthen and refine his lower body mechanics. Will bend at the waist. Hand techniques are inconsistent. Too often allows the blocker to get initial contact and inside position. Will give up too much against the double team. Just nine career starts. Pro day numbers: 28.5/VJ, 8-10/BJ, 4.70/SS, 7.68/3 cone. 2020 stats: 45 T, 13.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks, 1 PBU, 1 QBH, 1 FF, 1 INT (1 TD). Second/ third round. (A-35 1/2, H-9 1/4, BP-NA, 10-1.70).
