Ourlads' Profile:

2020 Guide: What Ourlads' Scouting Services said about SHYHEIM CARTER: Alabama, 5104 194 4.50. Two-year starter, Kentwood, LA. Was a starter at safety in 2018 before becoming the nickel or Star in Alabama’s defense. Active and aggressive, he flashes playmaking skill and is consistently around the ball in pursuit. Flashes hand use attacking a slot’s block and can escape on the move. Normally a secure wrap up tackler in space. Aware in the short zones seeing the threats and the quarterback. Gets depth in his flat drops balancing high low receivers. Can be physical with re-route of a slot with the ability to flip his hips coming off into the throwing lane. Controlled pedal playing off maintaining cushion and timing his transitions. Battles at the catch point and has made some plays on the ball. Mirrors most route   breaks and has solid eye discipline in man and zone. Occasionally gets separated on a cut and recovery speed is average. A little undersized, has some problems with taller receivers. Can be in position and not make the play. Some hip tightness in movements. Special teams ability will be important for him to make a roster. Has versatility to play a lot of spots and that could make him attractive as a late round pick. Shrine Bowl notes: Saw time at nickel where he played well. Solid zone defender and was physical taking on blocks. Has range in the deep zones with ability to get over the top. Had some trouble reacting to the ball as he missed a shot at an interception in the game. Inconsistent in match coverage as he got separated on some route breaks. 2019 stats: 43 T, 2.5 TFL, 7 PBU, 1 FF, 1 INT. No Combine workout-his choice. Sixth/seventh round. (A-29 5/8, H-9 1/2, VJ-DNP, SS-DNP).
