Ourlads' Profile:
2021 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about AUSTIN WATKINS JR.: Alabama-Birmingham, 6014 207 4.55. Two-year starter, Fort Myers, FL. Spent two seasons at Dodge City CC. Second-team All-Conference USA in 2018 and first-team in 2020. Cousin to current NFL wide receiver Sammy Watkins. Looks like a pro receiver when looking at his body and vertical speed. Has that kind of effortless glide to him downfield attached to a muscular build. He started to turn a corner in 2019 and the flashes of elite ability became more and more frequent. Still a few rough edges to his skill set, but the upside is high. Checks a lot of boxes when it comes to size and speed. Easy vertical burst with a next-level gear once he gets going. Will knife through the top of a secondary and continue to gain more and more separation the further downfield he gets. Will flash with multiple high-difficulty plays looking easy and natural. Can snare the ball out of the air with full awareness where his feet are near the boundaries. Shows the ability to get off the line in a hurry while shaking contact by a press corner. Needs to further develop his ball skills across the board. Needs to show more aggression. Doesn’t seem to have natural and timely leaps toward the ball downfield. Inconsistent hands and catching mechanics. Needs an extra step out of his break. Doesn’t play fast. Still looks raw. 2020 stats: 34-468, 13.8 ypr, 3 TD. Fourth/fifth round. (A-31, H-9 1/2, VJ-NA, SS-NA).
