Three year starter. Played a total of five seasons, including his first two years as a running back. Third-team All-Big 10 in 2023. Undersized but hyper athletic prospect who made a smooth transition to linebacker in 2021. Quick with read and react, he can get downhill to fit a gap or outrun a block scraping outside. Perimeter to perimeter range in pursuit. Instinctive with a nose for the ball. Uses extreme quickness to get ball side leverage on climbing combo blocks. Quick with hands to ward off blockers on the move. Solid inside fits taking small open windows. Excellent lateral agility he can quickly redirect in a short space. Avoids a lot of blocks and still takes solid angles to the ball. Has tackling skill and bursts into tackles with quick gather and drive. Has speed and aptitude for coverage and takes solid zone drops. Quick to look for work and find the throwing lane. Can read pattern pressure and keep his head on a swivel to see the quarterback and threats. As a man defender the speed is there for vertical release, but he’s prone to separate against a cut and get grabby. He’s been able to avoid a lot of blocks with his athleticism and instincts, but if a blocker can square him up he has difficulty shedding and can be easily stalemated. Has trouble with misdirection and cutbacks as he can overrun the gap. Needs to slow the read down at times. Has not been an effective blitzer as he can run into a block, and block destruction is an area of concern. Short arms are a concern there as well as when tackling he has some misses. Has special team skill and can find a role in the right scheme.
