Arizona State, 6032 296 5.27. Junior entry, three-year starter, Mission Hills, CA. Second-team All-Pac 12 in 2021, honorable mention in 2020. Has seen time at both guard and center, but most likely projects to the latter in the NFL. West is a try-hard blocker with good hands and a strong anchor. That is an excellent starting point for an interior blocker who brings this level of versatility to the table. He can move well once he gets going but there are notable balance and control issues that pop up when he matches up against a quick lateral mover. His baseline skill set projects to a versatile backup in the NFL. If his footwork and balance can be improved, he can develop into a starter. Strong and sturdy presence that can absorb contact and momentum, stopping it in its tracks. Will stand defenders up with good hand positioning and a strong grip. Good enough athlete to get out in space and reach defenders when angles are correct. Brings violent power on contact, delivering a solid pop with hands that can be sticky. Comfortable enough in the zone scheme to reach across a three-techniques face. Gets movement off the line as a straight-ahead gap blocker on short yardage plays. Has a common tendency to overset in space, leaving himself vulnerable to cutback moves by defenders. Narrow base will limit his blocking radius when it comes to lateral spacing. Shows balance issues when he needs to adjust on the fly. Does not appear to have a natural base that is always there for his support.
