Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about JALEN WYDERMYER:
Texas A&M, 6037 255 4.85. Junior entry, three-year starter, Dickinson, TX. Earned second-team All-SEC honors all three seasons. A 2020 Mackey Award finalist. He is dripping with tools, talent, and potential. Has the prototype body plus some extra length and ability to track the ball. Shows flashes of being an ideal tight end target in today’s pass-happy NFL, one that will cause matchup nightmares across the board. Has the prototype body and frame for the position, notably one that favors the skill set of a pass catcher. Big hands and long arms proportionally. Displays ability to track the ball well and attack it with his hands. Can locate the ball while running vertically and adjust his weight, direction, and momentum with ease. Natural body control and leaping ability. Easy adjustments to the ball, has some wide receiver ball skills to him. Long strider who can swallow a lot of space in a hurry once he gets going. Can be a vertical threat up the seam. A matchup menace near the end zone. Can box out defenders and use his length to ensure he is the only one that can reach the ball. Shows blocking potential when looking at his tools. Capable of adjusting his weight to the pass in an instant and has made multiple highlight-reel plays over his career. The issue is everything in between. His drop rate and blocking grades are bottom tier. Inconsistent hands. Too many drops that appear to be concentration-based. Needs to stay focused. Low-effort blocker who struggles to get his head across his man. Doesn’t maintain a lockout on his man, a one-hit kind of player that will not work with any quality footwork. Lacks urgency and attention to detail. The lack of consistency and reliability make him a boom-or-bust prospect.
2021 stats: 40-515,12.9 ypr, 4 TD. Fifth/sixth round. (A-33 1/8, H-9 3/4, VJ-DNP, SS-DNP).
