Ourlads' Profile:

2017 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about KERMIT WHITFIELD: Florida State, 5076 185 4.48. Four-year contributor who played in 54 games. From Orlando, FL. Has a big time track background. Second-team All-ACC in 2015. As a freshman he led the country in kickoff returns with a dazzling 36.4 yards per return, breaking a 59-year old ACC record. He also returned a kickoff for 100 yards in the BCS national championship game that gave the Seminoles a 27-24 lead. Shoots out of a cannon, reaching his top speed in a moment’s time. That top speed is elite. More than a track athlete playing football. Has vision and ball carrying skills to go with it. Good vision and will find the creases he can burst through. Can break tackles in space and traffic. Tough player who attacks the ball in the air. Can make the tough catch away from his body on the move. Strong presence, will hold his ground against physical defensive backs. Very limited catch radius. Lacks height, length, and hand size ideals. Can disappear from a quarterback’s vision. Inconsistent ball skills, tries to trap the ball instead of snag it. Needs to come back to the ball with more aggression. Route running should be more productive considering his movement ability. Doesn’t disguise routes well. A situational player who needs to concentrate on the mental aspect of the game. Not a conceptual learner. Began his career with the Seminoles as a game changing kick returner but saw a spike in offensive production as a junior in 2015. He didn’t take the step forward some were expecting in 2016, but that was due to a lack of opportunities more than anything. Whitfield has the kind of explosion and speed that won’t come around often. There is a developed skill set here in addition. Put him in the right role and he can change the game right away. This kind of speed can change games and the opposing defensive approach. 2016 stats: 34-395, 11.6 ypr, 1 TD, 26-595 KOR, 22.8 avg. OSR:49/60. Sixth/seventh round. (A-30, H-8 1/2, VJ-32.5, SS-4.38).
