Ourlads' Profile:

2019 Guide: What Ourlads' Scouting Services said about TRE WATSON: Maryland, 6020 235 4.75. First year starter at Maryland after transferring as a graduate student from Illinois. Was a two year starter for the Illini. At Maryland he played primarily inside but formations occasionally would take him out of the box. Flashes playmaking skill with generally solid fits at inside gaps. Takes on blocks with a sometimes violent push/pull to shed. Plays to the snap and hustles in pursuit. Scrapes well to the alley and can slip a block on the move. Has short area agility and moves well laterally. Solid form tackling skill with gather and finish. Consistently makes tackles in space showing patience to react to cutbacks. Excellent zone defender with eye discipline to see the quarterback and threats. Gets depth in his drop and adjusts to pattern pressure. Gets to a lot of balls following the quarterback’s delivery key. Flashes man-to-man skill picking up backs on flat routes and staying in phase up the field. More of a lateral movement player than a quick downhill reactor. Some hesitation with the play at him in line. Waits for blocks at times, gets tied up and does not impact the play. Is a solid fundamental player in most phases but may lack the range to be a full time starter. Tackling skill should play well on special teams and his ability to cover will be attractive to zone teams. He could be a starter but may project as a backup/situational player. Shrine Game participant. 2018 stats: 114 T, 3 TFL, 1 sack, 3 PBU, 1 FF, 5 INT (1 TD). Not invited to Combine. Sixth/seventh round. (A-30 1/2, H-9 7/8, BP-DNP, SS-DNP).
